Everest Base Camp Island Peak

Island Peak is most popular climbed peak in Everest region. Traditionally known as Imja Tse – it got named “Island Peak” in 1952 due to its striking resemblance to an island on a sea of ice. This is a classic trek to the Everest region including Kalapathar and Everest Base camp where this experience will take you into the heart of the world’s majestic Himalayan Mountains. Island Peak has an impressive highly glaciated West Face which rises from the Lhotse Glacier.

Our adventure begins from Lukla which is a short flight away from Kathmandu. We follow the steep path along Dudh Koshi River through Sagarmatha National Park we arrive at Namche Bazaar, gateway to Everest. We continue our trek to Tengboche village where Tengboche monastery, largest and highest altitude monastery of Everest Region is located. Then we head to Pheriche, Lobuche and Everest Base Camp. From the camp we walk to Gorak Shep and then to KaLa Pathar which is famous as a vantage point for up-close and breathtaking views of Mt. Everest and surrounding mountains.

After a good night’s rest we head back to Lobuche from where we continue our journey to Kongma La Pass, Chhukung and Island Peak Base camp. You can have a pre-climbing training on Island Peak Base camp. We finally get to our goal- summit of Island Peak and back to the Base Camp. We descend throuth wide valley of Khumbu river, pass through beautiful Sherpa villages arriving at Pangboche and then to Namche.

After a night rest we return back to Lukla. This trip also walks us through the renowned Khumbu region within the “land of the Sherpa’s” where we will participate in Nepalese and Tibetan cultures which have existed for centuries. The summit of Island peak stands adjacent to one of the world’s largest ice walls and offers stunning views of Ama Dablam and the pyramid of Makalu. This trip is suitable for those who are energetic and wishing for both trekking and climbing at one go. Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November) are the best months for this trip.
